Washington, D.C. to help pioneer new flight-certification standards for space artifacts

Astronaut Buzz Aldrin and David Frohman, President of Peachstate Historical Consulting, Inc.,
met at the headquarters of Aldrin's "ShareSpace" foundation in Washington, D.C. today. During the meeting, Aldrin and Frohman reviewed recent space auction sales catalogs which then led to a productive brainstorming session together. Discussions included potential marketing strategies that would allow the astronauts to begin profitably selling their flown artifacts into the newly-emerging space collectibles market. David Frohman expressed concern that astronauts are not realizing the full sales potential of artifacts that they have consigned to auction in recent years, due to incomplete astronaut documentation. Frohman then shared with Aldrin his vision for a new and comprehensive approach that the astronauts could adopt to properly flight-certify the items that they sell into the marketplace. This would protect both the purchasers of the artifacts, and help the astronauts and their families realize the maximum potential return for their cherished flown artifacts. David Frohman has actively worked with various astronauts to help pioneer some of the earliest sales standards and practices for the sale of astronaut-owned flown artifacts. If all goes well, the market may one day even see spectacular Apollo 11 flown items such as maps and checklists in collector hands. |
