David Frohman, President of Peachstate Historical Consulting, Inc., is pleased to announce the sale at
auction of Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar D. Mitchell's personal spacesuit name tag worn on the Moon. This name tag represents the actual example worn on Mitchell's spacesuit during both of his Apollo 14 moonwalks in February, 1971. The name tag also bears visible lunar dust that was acquired during its direct exposure to the lunar surface environment. Peachstate consigned the name tag to the April, 2010 Heritage Space Auction, where it realized a total sales price of $59,750.00, including buyers premium. "I am delighted to see this icon of the space program sell for what I consider to be a very respectable price," Frohman said. "The importance of this remarkable artifact was also appreciated by the staff at Heritage Auctions, who chose to actually feature the name tag on the front cover of their catalog!" "Since 1997, Peachstate has sold many of the finest flown space artifacts, many of which may be seen in our on-line museum, and indeed we continue to do so to this day," David Frohman said. "These also include space artifacts that have realized well in excess of $60,000.00." "This particuliar item, however, has always been close to my heart, and I am delighted to see it do so well at auction!" |
